Assignments

Assignment #1. Oral presentations

Each group of 3-4 will give a brief oral presentation (15 minutes), during which you will be responsible for leading the class discussion and presenting data that you've collected on your chosen points.

You will be required to consult at least three outside sources (some Web sites mentioned above will be of great help). Download from the teacher’s notebook on your USB-Flash and study “Public Speaking” presentation.

Some possible topics for presentation (you can also come up with your own suggestions):

  • your expectations at the beginning of the school year;
  • your worries at the beginning of the school year; 
  • your feelings during the first day at school; 
  • things you like about school; 
  • things you dislike about school and what can be done about them; 
  • what your school was like in the past.
Assignment #2. Paper

During these 6 lessons you will be required to write an essay about what school means to you .
Your essay

1. should contain a clear thesis and well-supported arguments
2. should include the following points:

  •  how you feel about school in general
  • the part of school life you enjoy most
  • what makes you feel unhappy or anxious about
  • if your school provides you with a good start for adult life or not
3. should demonstrate application of useful language (p.6,ex.6 WB)

Sources are not required, but you may use them if you wish; be sure to cite all sources!
